Fees, Policies, and Common Questions

If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right next step, we can begin with a brief conversation. I offer a free 15-minute consult to see if working together feels like a good fit.

Session Fees

  • The fee for each 50 minute session is $150 and I offer a sliding scale for those with financial need. Please contact me directly for questions at info@kristinmichiepsych.com

  • Payment is made by credit cards or e-transfer through OWL.

  • You will receive an invoice following your apt. Once you pay and I record the payment, you will receive a receipt.

  • We encourage you to consult with your insurance plans to explore your coverage. We do not directly bill insurance companies.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • Your appointment time is reserved just for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice to avoid being charged the full session fee.

  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, and missed sessions, will be billed at the regular session rate, except in cases of emergency or serious illness.

  • If you're running late, I’ll hold your appointment time for you, but the session will still end at the scheduled time.

  • This policy helps ensure I can offer consistent, reliable care to all clients.

Are your services online or in person?

  • I currently offer services virtually over a secure, PHIPA-compliant platform, OWL, that ensures the safety of your personal health information. My experience providing services virtually is that this affords my clients the flexibility of speaking to me from the comfort of their own homes, and also allows me the opportunity to offer accessible services to anyone in Ontario.

What does Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) mean?

  • I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). This means I have completed my graduate training and am practicing under supervision while completing the final direct-client-hour requirement for full registration.

  • My work meets CRPO standards, and supervision is an added layer of professional support—not something that changes your experience of therapy.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation so we can connect briefly before you decide whether to book a session. You don’t need to have everything figured out—this is simply a space to ask questions, share what’s been going on, and see if my approach feels right for you.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Therapy is confidential and protected under Ontario privacy legislation (PHIPA). There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality, such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others, which I will explain clearly at the start of therapy.

Are there concerns you don’t work with?

I work with adults (ages 16+) and do not provide therapy for children or adolescents. I also do not offer crisis services, emergency care, or on-call support.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or are at immediate risk of harm, it’s important to contact emergency services or a local crisis line right away.

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and there may be times when a different level of care or a more specialized service is needed. If I’m not the right fit for your current needs, I will do my best to help you find appropriate resources or referrals.

What is your approach to therapy?

My approach is collaborative and grounded in building a strong, trusting relationship. I believe that therapy is most effective when you feel safe, seen, and genuinely understood. Getting to know you and your story, your patterns, your strengths, is at the heart of the work.

I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This means we might explore the roots of long-standing patterns, challenge unhelpful thoughts, or build skills for emotional regulation and valued living, depending on what feels most useful to you.

Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. We’ll find a pace and process that fits who you are and where you are right now.

Who do you work best with?

I work best with adults who are thoughtful, reflective, and motivated to understand themselves more deeply. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, overthinking, self-doubt, or relationship concerns, and are looking for both practical tools and deeper insight—not quick fixes.

How long does therapy usually last?

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and what you’re hoping to work on. Some clients come for shorter-term support, while others choose to work longer-term. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to feel useful and aligned with your needs.

Do I need to know what I want to work on before starting?

No. Many clients begin therapy feeling unsure or overwhelmed and simply know that something isn’t working. Part of the work is clarifying what’s going on and what might help.

Is virtual therapy effective?

Research shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety and mood-related difficulties. Many clients find that meeting from home allows them to feel more comfortable and focused during sessions.

How do I get started?

You can book a session directly through the online booking system or contact me if you have questions before starting. Once booked, you’ll receive instructions for accessing sessions through the secure OWL platform.
